The Ultimate Revival

Every month, we celebrate and feature a woman who went for it, bringing their vision and passion to life. While their businesses and projects vary — they all have battled through self-doubt, jumped before fully ready and embarked on entrepreneurship while simultaneously carrying a heavy load specially reserved for modern mothers.

For December, we are chatting with Marissa Mihos, owner of Revival Wellness Studio in Medfield, Ma.

After experiencing complete burn-out from working 60+ hours a week as a health care consultant, Marissa left her corporate job to create Revival and support others in establishing self-care and wellness routines to help both their physical and mental health.

We caught up with Marissa to hear about why she took a risk to create her dream business — and what’s in store for the future.

You left a stable corporate job to follow a dream. What led you to take the leap?

It was a combination of factors, but at the core, I was completely burned out. I had been longing to leave the corporate world for years, but I kept pushing that dream aside, listening to the advice and fears of others instead of trusting my own inner voice.

The turning point came during the pandemic, when being stuck at home forced me to confront the things I had been avoiding—my stress, my unhappiness, and the lack of alignment in my life. I started doing the inner work I had been putting off for years. I realized that the life I was living wasn’t sustainable.

There was also a moment with my daughter, Lily-James, that hit me like a ton of bricks. She was playing on my laptop, pretending to type, and I told her it was time for bed. She responded, “No, it’s not time for bed, it’s time for work. If I finish this today, I don’t have to work tomorrow. If I don’t finish this, I’m going to lose my job.” Hearing her say that was like holding up a mirror. That’s what I sounded like to her every time I told her I couldn’t play because I had to work. It broke my heart.

I finally decided to take a three-month leave of absence to figure out my next steps, and during that time, everything changed. I felt lighter, I was sleeping better, my skin was glowing, and I wasn’t as stressed or high-strung. For the first time in years, I felt like myself again.

That clarity made me realize I couldn’t go back to the life I had before. I needed to create a life where I felt fulfilled and aligned with my values. Taking the leap to launch Revival wasn’t easy, but it was the best decision I’ve ever made.

What have been some of the highlights of launching Revival? What have been the biggest challenges?

Launching Revival has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Every minute I spend in the studio fills me with joy. In my previous career, long days left me depleted and restless, but now, even after a full day at Revival, I come home feeling fulfilled and invigorated. Seeing clients leave with a look of relief and relaxation, as though a weight has been lifted from their shoulders, is a constant reminder of why I do what I do. Offering people a reprieve from the chaos of daily life is something I’ll always be grateful for. Revival is truly a reflection of my heart and my brand.

That said, the biggest challenge has been balancing work and life. As a single mom, it’s not easy to juggle everything, especially when sickness runs through the house and there’s no option to "take a sick day." I also love what I do so much that I could pour myself into it 24/7, which makes setting boundaries difficult. I've learned that the business thrives when I’m thriving, so allowing myself time to rest without guilt is an ongoing challenge. But it’s one I’m actively working on because self-care is at the core of what I believe in

Revival is a wellness studio to prioritize self-care. Why is this such a struggle for so many women? How do you strive to offer a solution?

Self-care is such a struggle for women because of a deeply ingrained mindset. As women, especially mothers, we often default to putting ourselves at the bottom of the priority list. We feel obligated to care for everyone else—our families, partners, kids, pets, homes, and our careers —before considering our own needs. But that’s completely backward. How can we care for others effectively when we’re depleted and running on empty?

I’ve struggled with this personally, especially as a mom. For years, I felt guilty for taking time for myself instead of spending every moment with my daughter. While that guilt hasn’t entirely disappeared, I’ve learned to reframe it. Now, I know that prioritizing my self-care is actually modeling healthy behavior for her. When I tell her, “I need to recharge before we do something,” I’m teaching her the importance of setting boundaries and listening to her needs.

Revival offers a solution by making self-care accessible, flexible, and approachable. The studio is a sanctuary where you can choose what you need—whether it’s a quick, under-an-hour wellness boost or an extended, customized self-care journey. It’s also a space to pause and linger; many clients stay after their sessions to chat, read a book, or just enjoy a moment of stillness.

Ultimately, the biggest hurdle is the belief that we don’t have time for self-care. But the truth is, we do have the time—we just need to start taking it. Revival is here to remind women that they are worth prioritizing.

You offer so many innovative treatments. How can someone decide what they should be doing? Do you have a current favorite?

With so many options at Revival, it’s normal to feel unsure about where to start. My advice is always to focus on your personal wellness goals. Are you looking for stress relief? Recovery from physical exertion or injury? A boost in energy or mental clarity? Do you have specific health concerns like sleep issues or inflammation? Each of our sessions is designed to address different aspects of well-being, and we can work together to create a plan that fits your needs and lifestyle.

One of my favorite things to do is sit down and talk with clients about their wellness goals. I love helping them figure out how to incorporate self-care into their daily or weekly routines in a way that feels manageable and fulfilling. Whether it’s a short session to fit into a busy day or a longer experience for deeper restoration, I’m here to guide you. If you’re dealing with a particular health issue, I can help match you with the sessions that may offer the most benefit.

As for my current favorite, this time of year, I’m all about the Red Light + Infrared Sauna Duo Session. I naturally run cold, and there’s something so comforting about the warmth of the sauna in the colder months. Not only does it help me physically by supporting detoxification and circulation, but the combination of Red Light Therapy and Infrared also gives me an energy boost and leaves me feeling refreshed and revitalized. It’s my go-to for staying cozy while maintaining my wellness routine during the winter.

The beauty of Revival is that we can tailor the experience to your unique needs. Whether you’re seeking to address specific concerns or simply want to feel better overall, we’ll work together to find the perfect treatments for you.

Anything new we can expect at Revival for 2025?

Absolutely! 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year at Revival, with several new offerings and events designed to deepen your wellness journey and build an even stronger sense of community.

We’re introducing sound healing and sound baths as part of our lineup, creating beautiful opportunities for relaxation, energy alignment, and deep healing through the power of sound. Additionally, guided breathwork sessions will become a regular offering, helping clients tap into the mind-body connection and release stress on a deeper level.

Workshops will be another big focus in 2025, covering topics like somatic healing, nervous system regulation, and other wellness practices to empower and educate. We’re also hosting Sip and Soul event nights, where clients can enjoy wellness-inspired beverages while engaging in soulful conversations and activities.

On top of that, we’ve added Halotherapy (salt therapy) to our Infrared Sauna for enhanced respiratory and skin health benefits. And starting in January, we’ll be rolling out evening events centered around community and connection, which we’re so excited about. Expect special pop-up collaborations with local wellness experts and businesses throughout the year as well!

We’re constantly evolving to meet the needs of our community and can’t wait to share all these new experiences with you in 2025.

What would you tell a woman who was thinking of taking a leap and going for a dream?

I would tell her this: Go for it, even if it scares you. Waiting for the perfect time, the perfect plan, or perfect circumstances often just keeps us stuck. Sometimes you have to take the leap first and trust that you’ll figure out the rest along the way. That’s how I did it, and while it wasn’t always easy, it’s been worth every moment.

For me, I reached a point where staying in my old life—exhausted, burned out, and unfulfilled—was no longer an option. I knew I had to create something that aligned with my passion and purpose, even if it meant stepping into the unknown.

What I’ve learned is that courage doesn’t mean you’re fearless—it means you’re willing to take the next step even with the fear. I’d also remind her that it’s okay to ask for help, to lean on your support system, and to let yourself dream big. When you pursue what sets your soul on fire, you’ll not only grow in ways you never imagined, but you’ll inspire others to do the same.

Taking a leap is never without challenges, but it’s also where the magic happens. You are capable of so much more than you think, and when you trust yourself, the universe has a way of meeting you halfway.
